The Skilled Independent Visa is a permanent residence visa for individuals who have the qualifications and skills required to fill Australia’s skill shortages and are not sponsored by an employer, family member or nominated by a State or Territory Government.

Requirements for Skilled Independent Subclass189 Visa

To qualify for a Subclass 189 visa, you would need to:

⦁ Make sure your occupation is on the Medium- and Long-Term Skilled Occupation List
⦁ Meet the pass mark in the skilled migration points test.
⦁ Be under 45 years of age.
⦁ Obtain a positive Skills Assessment from the relevant assessing authority.
⦁ Have competent English or Higher
⦁ Meet the health and character requirements.
⦁ Lodge an EOI and be invited to apply.

Skills Assessments and English test results

Skill Assessments are valid for three years unless otherwise stated and English language results are valid for three years. It is important to make certain your Skills Assessment and English language results remain valid, as they must be valid at the time you receive an invitation.

Expression of Interest (EOI)

Once you have completed your EOI, it is stored in Skill Select and is valid for two years. After this, you will have to submit a new EOI.

Visa Cost

The current Department of Home Affairs application fee starts from AUD 4,640. This will vary depending on the number of dependants included in your application and their age.
